TMJ Disorder & Sleep Apnea Treatment
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder is a common condition that results in inflammation in the joints that connect the jawbone to the skull. There is no singular cause of TMJ disorder; however, stress, bruxism (teeth grinding), and trauma to the jaw are thought to contribute. Dr. Kinder provides patients with custom night guards to protect teeth against bruxism and provide relief to the TMJ muscles.
Obstructive sleep apnea is another common disorder that can be treated with a custom oral appliance. Patients with this condition suffer from disrupted sleep and its side effects, as well as a higher risk of certain serious health disorders. During sleep, the soft tissues at the back of the mouth and throat relax and partially or completely obstruct the airway. As a result, your brain wakes you just enough to open the airway. Dr. Kinder provides bite splints that gently move the lower jaw forward to keep the airway open. This comfortable, conservative treatment helps patients experience improved sleep, mood, and energy levels.
