Dental Implants

Because of their many benefits, dental implants have become modern dentistry's go-to solution for missing teeth.

In addition to dramatically improving your ability to speak and chew, implants also help retain bone mass in the jaw for better oral health.

If you are considering dental implants, contact Living Life Dentistry in Knoxville, TN. We offer complete implant care to our patients...

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are replacement tooth roots made of titanium. They are designed to integrate with the jawbone and provide supreme support to dental crowns, bridges, or dentures. Also, because implants stimulate the jawbone just like tooth roots, they prevent the jawbone atrophy (shrinkage) that otherwise happens after teeth are lost.

If you choose our Knoxville practice for this state-of-the-art tooth restoration method, Dr. Gary Kinder will create a step-by-step plan and perform the implant placement surgery himself. Once you have fully recovered from this initial procedure, he will work with a dental lab to fabricate your customized dental crown, bridge, or denture and attach it permanently to the implants.

Implants in Action Replacing a Single Tooth

The titanium implant is first inserted into your jaw during a simple surgical procedure. Over a period of months, the implant fuses with the bone. After it has stabilized, Dr. Kinder will attach an abutment (small connector piece) to the implant. He will then attach a custom-designed, natural-looking crown to the abutment.

Dental Implant Candidacy

If you have a missing tooth, you are likely a good candidate for dental implants. There are two main factors that will determine if our dentist can get started on dental implant treatment right away:

  • Oral Health: Candidates for dental implants must be free of periodontal disease, oral cancer, decay, and other dental health issues. If your gums or natural teeth are compromised, we can provide the necessary care to restore your implant candidacy.
  • Jawbone Density: If you have suffered jawbone atrophy at the site of your missing tooth, your bone may not be strong enough to support an implant. Fortunately, Dr. Kinder performs bone grafting at our Knoxville office, which can restore the density and strength of your jawbone.

Dental Implant Timeline

Consultation

When you visit our office in Knoxville, TN, for a dental implant consultation, Dr. Kinder will take detailed scans of your bite with our state-of-the-art 3D CT scanner. He will use these images to evaluate your candidacy for implants and to help formulate your personalized treatment plan.

Preparation

If necessary, Dr. Kinder can perform any preparatory tooth extractions or bone grafting at our Knoxville office.

Implant Placement

Unlike other dentists in the area, Dr. Kinder is qualified to perform the implant placement surgery himself. He will begin the procedure by administering a local anesthetic and optional nitrous oxide for your comfort. He will then make small incisions in the gums and carefully insert the titanium posts into your jaw.

Recovery Period

Dental implants require four to six months to fuse with the jawbone. This process is known as osseointegration. Dr. Kinder will carefully monitor you during this time to ensure the implants integrate properly.

Abutment Placement

Once osseointegration is complete, you will return to our office so Dr. Kinder can attach abutments to the implants. Abutments are small pieces that connect crowns, bridges, or dentures to dental implants. You will need another one to two weeks for your gums to heal after the abutment placement.

Restoration

When you have fully recovered, Dr. Kinder will take impressions of your mouth for the dental lab to use in designing your customized, natural-looking crown, bridge, or denture. In most cases, the restoration fabrication process will take one to two weeks. After it is delivered, a follow-up appointment will be set for Dr. Kinder to attach your lifelike dental restoration to your implants.
"Dr.Kinder and his staff are always professional and provide the most thorough, gentle and pain free dental service in Knoxville. Hands down one of the best dentist in the area!" Danny Matthews, 5-Star Google Review

Insurance and Financing

Many dental insurance plans will contribute to the cost of dental implants. If you have dental insurance, our team can help you review your policy so you can maximize your available benefits.

If you do not have insurance, we can help you secure financing through CareCredit®. CareCredit is like a credit card for dental care that offers low-interest and no-interest payment plans to qualifying patients.

At the end of your initial consultation, we will go over the cost of implants and the payment methods we accept. It's impossible for Dr. Kinder to provide an accurate estimate without taking a look at your mouth, so schedule your consultation today to learn more.
